Selected project experience is as follows. Additional projects, including expert assistance for legal cases, are found in the full resume (available on request):
Cannington Mine, QLD – BHP Minerals
Pre-feasibility and initial feasibility geotechnical evaluation for conversion of underground mine to open pit project.
Jericho Mine – Tahera Diamonds Inc.
Data collection and design for open pit mine utilizing 3D digital photogrammetry. Included fault model creation, confirmation with televiewer logged targeted drillholes, etc.
Buckhorn Mine (Washington) – Kinross Gold
Portal design (3 portals) utilizing photogrammetric mapping, closed solution, and numerical analysis for all mine entries, rock mass characterization, and evaluation of opening orientations and dimensions, loads on pillars and fill, etc for the proposed mine.
Kettle River Operations (Washington) – Kinross Gold
Evaluation of underground rock mechanics data for sub-level open stoping hanging wall stability. Evaluation of rock support, pillar sizing, instrumentation recommendations, etc. Periodic review of designs and performance.
BHP-Billiton Diamonds Inc. (Northwest Territories, Canada)
Primary external rock mechanics consultant. Undertaken and completed all rock slope designs for presently operated and/or contemplated BHP-Billiton open pit diamond mines in the NWT. Conducted geotechnical evaluation of pipe areas prior to decline bulk sampling, rock support for decline in country rock and kimberlite, preliminary rock slope design. Evaluation of potential underground mining methods and pit slope design for feasibility studies. Conducting opening and support design for declines and ramp systems.
Barrick Goldstrike Mines Inc. (Nevada)
Evaluation of existing rock support and ground conditions in the then developing Meikle mine. Design of rock support for underground truck shop and crusher excavations. Geotechnical analysis of rock mass conditions for shaft access to a new deposit. Geotechnical evaluation of deposits in the vicinity.
Baley Mine - Transpacific Resources (Siberia)
feasibility level design of rock slopes for a proposed open pit mine. The orebody is located in a geologic depression filled with argillic sediments containing minor or discontinuous permafrost. Mining was to be conducted adjacent to a river in weak rock mass conditions. Design included evaluation and back analysis of previous failures in adjacent open pit mines, testing and evaluation of rock and rock mass strength, slope dewatering techniques, as well as techniques for detecting and mining near previously underground mined (caving) areas.
